An AI scribe assistant that knows the whole patient

Key takeaways

  • Hanah's assistant can see every visit a patient has had in Hanah, the documents drafted from them and the full transcript of each session.
  • When your practice management system is connected, it also reads the patient's treatment notes, profile and files (referrals, reports and results) from there.
  • You can ask it how a patient has progressed, what changed between visits or what was tried before, and ask it to draft a report from their whole history.

What clinicians are asking for

A clinician on Heidi's feedback board asked for an assistant with access to a patient's entire clinical history, with no limit to the current session and a few selected ones. They want to analyse progress over time, spot patterns, ask questions about the case and generate reports from the complete history.

This is how the assistant in Hanah works today.

What the assistant can see

Open the assistant from any page in Hanah, or from a patient or a visit, and ask about a patient by name. If the name matches more than one person, it shows you a search of Hanah and your practice management system and you pick the right one.

For that patient it can read:

  • every Hanah visit, newest first, with the documents drafted in each one
  • any single visit in full, including your scratchpad notes and the complete spoken transcript
  • their appointments and treatment notes in your connected practice management system, such as Cliniko, including notes filed without an appointment
  • their profile from the practice management system (date of birth, contact details and identifiers)
  • files attached to their record, such as referral letters, imaging reports and test results, in PDF or Word
  • their care plan and home exercise program

Visits recorded in Hanah and appointments from your practice management system appear together in one list. A patient you saw for two years before you started using Hanah still has those two years available to the assistant.

Questions you can ask

Ask the way you would ask a colleague who has read the file:

  • "How has Sarah's shoulder range changed since her first visit?"
  • "What did we try for her lower back before the injections?"
  • "Has he mentioned sleep problems in any session?"
  • "What did the radiology report from March say?"
  • "Who am I seeing today, and what do I need to know about each of them?"

The assistant goes to the visits, notes and files that answer the question and replies in the chat.

Reports from the whole history

Ask for a progress report, a discharge summary or a letter to a referring GP and Hanah drafts it from the patient's visits. A document about a single session draws on that session. A document about the patient's care, such as a progress report or an insurer report, draws on every visit with notes, in Hanah and in your practice management system.

The draft opens in Hanah for you to review and edit, and you can push it back to the patient's record in Cliniko.

Care plans work the same way. Ask for a home exercise program or a care plan for a patient and Hanah drafts it from their visits. If they already have one from that template, Hanah updates it in place.

Where it fits in your day

The assistant is part of the same app you record in. Before a session you can ask what happened last time. During a busy clinic you can ask it to draft the referral you promised a patient. At the end of the day you can ask for a summary of a patient's progress before a case review.

Patient data stays within your clinic's account and region. The assistant only reads patients you have access to in Hanah, and your practice management API key never leaves our servers. See our trust centre for details.

Frequently asked questions

Can the assistant see visits from before I started using Hanah?

Yes, when your practice management system is connected. It reads the patient's past appointments and treatment notes from there alongside their Hanah visits.

Can it read referral letters and test results?

Yes. It reads PDF and Word files attached to the patient's record in your practice management system, as well as files you attach in the chat.

Can it draft a report from a patient's whole history?

Yes. Ask for a progress report, discharge summary or referral letter and Hanah drafts it from every visit with notes, then opens it for you to review.

Does it work if I'm moving from Heidi?

Yes. The Hanah Chrome extension imports your past Heidi sessions with their transcripts and notes, and the assistant reads them like any other visit.

Try it

Hanah's Practice plan starts with a 1-month free trial and no card. Connect Cliniko and the assistant can answer questions about your existing patients on day one. If you're coming from Heidi, the free Hanah Chrome extension brings your past sessions across, and the assistant can read those too.
