Hanah for GPs

For Australian GPs, Hanah is the scribe to use. It drafts the consult note problem by problem in your format, and the care plan and the referral letter from the same consult. It runs next to Best Practice and MedicalDirector, and files into Cliniko, Halaxy, Nookal or Zanda. The price does not rise when the afternoon list runs over.

Australian GP notes

A GP week covers several kinds of consult. You will write some mix of:

• a note for every Level A to E general attendance, often with three problems in it, kept as adequate and contemporaneous records for the item you bill (MBS Online, item 23)
• a GP chronic condition management plan under items 965 and 967, which replaced GP management plans and team care arrangements on 1 July 2025. It records the patient's consent, a copy is offered to them, and a copy goes in the record (MBS Online, item 965)
• a Mental Health Treatment Plan under items 2700 to 2717, with an outcome measure such as the K10 and a formulation. Since 1 November 2025 it has to come from the patient's MyMedicare practice or usual GP, and reviews are billed as general attendances (MBS Online, item 2700, RACGP)
• the annual health assessment for patients aged 75 and older, items 701 to 707, with a written report offered to the patient (MBS Online, item 703)
• referral letters to specialists, and to allied health under the plan
• a certificate of capacity for an injured worker. In Victoria only a medical practitioner can issue the first one, for up to 14 days (WorkSafe Victoria)

A generic SOAP note does not cover that set. Either the scribe drafts each of those from the consult, or you rebuild the same templates by hand and copy the letter.

Hanah

Hanah is an all in one AI medical scribe designed for GP cases. Going beyond text you can include photos and videos as part of your clinical record keeping. You can start with templates for a consultation note, a care plan, a referral letter and a health assessment. Already have a Mental Health Treatment Plan proforma or a certificate of capacity as a Word or PDF file? Hanah fills that file from the session. The referral letter comes from the same consult. Allied health providers on Hanah can draft their report back to you the same way.

A patient who switches language mid-sentence is fine: Hanah detects the spoken language and drafts the record in English. A photo of a skin lesion taken in the room goes into the note. If the clinic wifi drops, recording continues and uploads when the connection is back.

In Best Practice or MedicalDirector practices, Hanah runs in the browser next to your clinical software, and the note copies into the patient's record with its formatting kept. If you run Cliniko, Halaxy, Nookal or Zanda, Hanah works inside it in the browser. The note files into the form you already use. The integration is on the plan, not an add-on.

After you accept the note, the same consult drafts a care plan the patient reads on their phone: where they are starting, a card for each thing they agreed to do, and a check-in before the next consult. Later consults update it, and nothing new reaches the patient until you approve it. A patient who prefers another language reads a translated copy.

Hanah's Practice plan is A$100 per practitioner a month, or A$80 billed annually. Sessions are unlimited. Integrations are included. Try it free for a month, no card needed. Records stay in your region: Australia, the UK and EU or the US.

Lyrebird Health

Lyrebird is an Australian medical scribe built around general practice. Its GP page lists care plans, Mental Health Treatment Plans, 45 to 49 and 75+ health assessments, medical certificates and populated PDFs, and says data is processed and stored in Australia. Its care plan line quotes items 721 and 732, which 965 and 967 replaced on 1 July 2025.

Its pricing page has a free plan of 50 transcribe or dictate actions and 10 documents a month, with "No EMR Integrations". Bp Free costs nothing for eligible Bp Premier users: unlimited consult notes, 10 documents a month, and 20 care plans and assessments in total. Pro is A$160 a month billed annually, with Best Practice, Cubiko and BetterConsult.

We could not find a MedicalDirector integration on its integrations page, a care plan the patient reads at home, or a published error rate.

Heidi Health

Heidi is a general medical scribe. Its pricing page shows unlimited transcription on every plan. Clinician is about A$85 a month billed annually, with no EHR integration. Practice is A$130, annual only, with EHR integration as an add-on. Its Best Practice page says that integration needs Practice, and its MedicalDirector page says the same for Practice and Enterprise. Heidi Forms fills an uploaded PDF.

We could not find a measured hallucination rate or a care plan the patient reads at home.

MedicalDirector Smart Scribe

Smart Scribe is built into MedicalDirector Clinical. Its product page lets the practice choose Heidi Health at $1,299 a year or Intellitek at $105 per user a month as the engine. It says recordings are deleted after transcription and data is stored in Australian data centres.

We could not find form filling, a care plan the patient reads at home, or a published error rate on that page.

mAIscribe

mAIscribe is an Australian GP scribe built by clinic owners. Its home page lists templates for mental health care plans, chronic condition management and health assessments. Basic is A$67 a month billed annually with one custom template. Pro is A$150 billed annually and adds MBS Helper, which highlights MBS items for your review. Prices exclude GST.

Its scribe page says it works alongside Best Practice and MedicalDirector by copying to the clipboard. We could not find a published error rate or a care plan the patient reads at home.

A free plan and a cap. Lyrebird's Bp Free caps care plans and assessments at 20 in total. A GP doing three a week reaches that in under two months, and Pro is A$160 a month billed annually. Hanah's Practice plan is a flat A$80 billed annually, unlimited, with the integration and the patient plan included.

After the note. The MBS asks you to offer the patient a copy of a GPCCMP, a Mental Health Treatment Plan or a 75+ assessment report. Hanah drafts the care plan from the same consult and puts it on the patient's phone, and you can email any document to the patient from Hanah.

Filing the note. In Best Practice and MedicalDirector the note copies into the record with its formatting kept. In Cliniko, Halaxy, Nookal and Zanda it files into the form you already use, on the plan you would actually buy.

Error rates. Ask every vendor for a measured error rate and the method behind it. We publish ours.

The bottom line

If all you want is the note, Hanah drafts it, and we publish our benchmarks so you can check how well.

Those four stop at the documentation. Hanah does the documentation and the work it sits in: the note for every problem, the filled form, the referral letter, the photo and the patient's plan, out of the same consult, landing where you already work.

Record a chronic condition review on a real patient who raises a new problem before leaving. Check that each problem has its own assessment and plan, the goals and patient actions are in the plan, the referral letter is ready to review, the note copies into your clinical software with its formatting, and the plan is on the patient's phone. Run a trial like that before you commit.

FAQ

Which AI scribe is best for GPs in Australia?

Hanah. It drafts the multi-problem note, the care plan and the referral letter from one recording, works next to Best Practice and MedicalDirector, and puts the plan on the patient's phone.

Can an AI scribe draft a GPCCMP or a Mental Health Treatment Plan?

It can draft the plan from the planning consult. You still record the patient's consent, offer them a copy and add it to the record, and you remain responsible for checking it. The RACGP advises against relying on a scribe to decide whether MBS requirements have been met. Hanah drafts the plan from the consult. It does not suggest item numbers.

Can it fill a WorkCover certificate of capacity?

Upload the certificate your state scheme uses and Hanah fills it from the consult. You check it and sign it.

Do I need patient consent to use an AI scribe?

Yes. Ahpra's guidance on AI in healthcare says a generative AI scribe will generally need informed consent, and that you are responsible for checking the records it creates. Hanah asks for consent before recording, stores records in Australia, and neither Hanah nor its providers train models on clinical data (Australian Trust Centre).

What should I try in a week?

Use it on your own list, in your own clinical software: a long chronic condition consult, a mental health plan, a 75+ health assessment and a WorkCover review. If the note, the plan, the letter and the patient's copy all come out of the same recording, keep it.
